CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Several Charleston-area schools and students are being honored by the American Heart Association for their ‘exceptional’ fundraising efforts during the 2024-2025 Kids Heart Challenge, the organization announced Monday.

Mount Pleasant’s Jennie Moore Elementary earned the title of top fundraising school in South Carolina, raising nearly $42,000 while Mamie P. Whitesides Elementary School student Miles Moore was the state’s top individual fundraiser by gathering more than $4,000 in donations.

The American Heart Association annually partners with schools across the nation to teach students, families and staff the importance of avoiding vaping/tobacco, how to make smart food choices and lifesaving skills such as hands-only CPR.
