MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed a second death linked to the Legionella outbreak in Marshalltown. The deceased was an elderly adult with multiple underlying health conditions who passed away on September 18. So far, there have been 71 reported cases of legionellosis, including two fatalities.

Cooling towers in the area are suspected to be the outbreak's source, but laboratory tests have yet to confirm this. Disinfection efforts have been completed at all business centers with cooling towers in the affected area.
