TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo has signed a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move forward on what officials call a critical step in protecting the region’s drinking water.
Toledo's Environmental Infrastructure 594 project will link a planned 1-billion-gallon reservoir to the city’s current intake in Lake Erie. The reservoir, located on a 135-acre site in Oregon, would provide up to 10 days of drinking water in the event of an emergency.
Lt. Col. Rob Burnham of the Army Corps of Engineers called the project the largest the Corps has supported under its Ohio Environmental Infrastructure program.
