MORGANFIELD, KY. (WFIE) - The city of Morganfield is getting a much-needed funding boost for its multi-phase sewer and water project.

Large pipes that currently sit in a parking lot off Main Street will soon be going into the ground.

“We’re treating a lot of rain water which cost tax payers a whole lot of money because it’s expensive,” Mayor Randy Greenwell said. “So, this will take the rain water to the ditches to the river and all we’re doing is treating treating the sewer water.”

The $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will help fund the third and final phase of the separation and replacement of sewer lines and storm sewers across the city - work mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
