EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - At the same news conference discussing the Sunday morning shooting , another topic of discussion arose: the rise in gun violence.

Mayor Stephanie Terry took the podium with heated comments, saying there is no place for gun violence in the community.

She said that gun violence has become all to common, referencing a couple stories that 14 News has covered in the past.

“I feel like I’ve talked about this too much lately,” Terry stated. A teenager died because he and his friends were playing with what they thought was an unloaded gun. A student took a gun to school trying to sell it. We need to do better.”

The teenager she was referencing was Javion’tae “Jojo” Cox, who family and friends hosted a vigil for on September 6th.
