Dane Steel sat down in wide receivers coach Sam Mix’s office back in January, and it didn’t take long for Dane’s older brother, Coy, to come up.
Mix emphasized how consistent Coy — a former MSU wideout who battled injuries throughout his career — was, bringing the same attitude each day to practices and games. Dane, now a redshirt freshman WR, has tried to model that work ethic.
“I take pride in that,” Steel said Monday. “One thing (offensive coordinator Pete) Sterbick talks about a lot is make the coaches play you. If you just show up and you're consistent, then they have no choice but to give you a chance.”
