STOCKTON, Mo. - A shooting threat shut down a candlelight vigil for political activist Charlie Kirk in the Ozarks.
"This was a reflection for a group of individuals to come together and have a vigil for like-minded views, and unfortunately and disappointingly, somebody ruined that," said Mayor Brandon Cahill.
Sunday night, dozens of people were gathered in Stockton Park to honor the life of Kirk, when suddenly the event was canceled.
A quick rain shower had paused the vigil just a few minutes after it began, but then people were told it was canceled after a threat was made online.
"We decided we were going to move the sound system," said organizer of the vigil, Cindy Malone. "And we were just going to do (the memorial) under the roof there."
