THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — Before earning medals and awards for his service in the U.S. Army, Sgt. Donavon Scott made an impact in high school.
“He was just always happy, always full of joy,” said Scott’s former principal, Dr. Ken Friesen. “He just always had a heart for service.”
Scott was one of four Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldiers killed when their helicopter crashed west of Olympia last week.
The soldiers killed in the crash were identified as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Andrew Cully, 35, of Sparta, Missouri; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Andrew Kraus, 39, of Sanibel, Florida; Sgt. Jadalyn Good, 23, of Mount Vernon, Washington; and Scott, 25, who grew up in Tacoma.
“It was a gut punch. Literally, I just sat at my desk and just bawled for a few minutes. It hit hard,” Friesen said.
