LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — Thousands of drivers take on our valley freeways daily.

To keep everyone safe, our roads need to be durable and that is where Nevada Department of Transportation’s materials lab comes in.

“We let the construction people know the test is great and if not good we notify that as well and let them know their stuff isn’t working,” said Jessie Oakley III the associate engineer at the materials lab.

Oakley is testing material all year round inside the lab.

“I think about this way, is this asphalt going to be good enough for me to drive on the streets of Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder city and anywhere in Nevada so I think about that anytime I do these tests,” Oakley said.
