KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A 30-day feasibility study between Jackson County and Kansas City to explore the possibility of the city using the existing Jackson County Detention Center as a temporary jail was introduced at the legislative meeting on Monday.
Legislator Sean Smith proposed the resolution, saying he believes it makes sense to explore the option.
“The fact is that the City brings inmates to us now for serious crimes that are state-level, county-level crimes when their police department enforces the law,” said Smith. “So we know they are willing to bring inmates there. Why build something new that is just temporary if our crappy old jail could serve the purpose for a little while, while they build the shiny new jail?”
