KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jackson County is looking to give Kansas City the opportunity to use its downtown jail. Republican County Legislator Sean Smith introduced a resolution on the matter at the County Courthouse Monday.
Smith's proposal would allow the city to use the jail at no up front cost, but the city would assume operational and maintenance expenses.
"Is it a better option to take over a facility that functions? They bring us inmates all the time," Smith said Monday.
The city would obviously have to agree to the idea. Monday, Mayor Quinton Lucas said it would be difficult for them to approve of this.
