SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/FOX24) — Washington County and Benton County held a joint meeting Sept. 22 at the Springdale City Council Chamber to discuss mutual future issues the two counties are facing.

The two counties gathered to identify problems that Northwest Arkansas is facing as the population is expected to exceed 1 million people by 2050.

This meeting comes after the Northwest Arkansas Council assigned a third party, DPZ Codesign, to run a study to help pinpoint the issues in the area. A member of DPZ Codesign laid out the company's findings to members of both counties.

Washington County Judge Patrick Deakins said this historic meeting is the groundwork for finding future solutions to the rapid growth.
