SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Congresswoman Chellie Pingree sent a letter requesting access to an ICE facility in Scarborough located at Manson Libby Road after hearing reports that immigrants being held at the facility are being denied access to their attorneys.

The Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees all people in the U.S. due process, regardless of their citizenship status.

Section 292 of the Immigration and Nationality Act also gives immigrants the right to retain legal counsel.

Pingree sent a letter directly to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem demanding a tour of the facility. DHS has 30 days to respond to the letter.
