The father of a seven-month-old baby who drowned at a Queensland campsite has been granted bail, with the court hearing of a "huge history" of alcohol abuse in the lead-up to his son's death.

Jaye Lee Walton, 42, has been charged with the manslaughter of his son Reef Hunter Walton in July.

The infant was pulled from a pond near a campsite where the family was staying at Chatsworth, in the Gympie region, before campers tried to perform CPR.

He was taken to Gympie Hospital by paramedics where he later died.

Accused 'observed drunk', court told

During a Supreme Court bail application hearing in Brisbane, the court heard there had been reports of Mr Walton drinking heavily at the campsite.
