Novi — Less than two months after Novi residents passed a property tax increase to fund upgrades and new facilities for public safety, the push to get the work going is underway.

Residents in August approved a 1-mill property tax to raise $120 million over 25 years. The money would pay for bonds to build a new public safety headquarters, rebuild two fire stations and renovate a third.

Of the four firms interviewed by city to lead on architecture and engineering for the projects, two of them − DLZ and HED − were asked to present their design proposals to the city's Finance and Administration Committee on Sept. 15. The committee found both firms to be "more than adequate" in their presentations, Novi Mayor Justin Fischer said at the Monday night City Council meeting.
