MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A woman, 76, reported Sept. 17 that she had been caught up in a scam for the past two months that cost her $550,000.

The scam started when she received notifications on her computer suggesting that her credit cards had been compromised.

She called a number that was included and was told that purchases for child pornography had been made to her credit cards.

Believing that she was under a federal investigation, she cooperated with the requests of the scammer and handed over cash and gold to an unknown person in her apartment parking lot on Chatham Way on multiple occasions.

The incident is under investigation.
