A man has been charged following a collision in Tullamarine that left a police dog and his handler with injuries on Monday night.
It is alleged the man's car collided with the rear of a police vehicle on the Tullamarine Freeway about 10:45pm.
Rocco the German Shepherd was ejected from the canopy of the police vehicle during the collision.
Victoria Police Senior Sergeant Mark Boysen from the Dog Squad said Rocco was fortunate to escape with only superficial injuries.
"He looks pretty sick and sorry but surprisingly he's doing really well as is … our handler," he said.
"Rocco has got a number of scrapes and scratches around the face and muzzle. He's been scanned … and there's no broken bones, there's no internal injuries."
