BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In 2024, the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy reported over 1,400 Kentuckians lost their lives from overdoses, which was down from nearly two thousand deaths in 2023.

Kristopher York was addicted to drugs and alcohol for over 25 years, but because of his ambition and with help, he is now sober.

York said, “Today, I’m clean by the grace of God for seven years.”

He’s hoping more people can receive the help he got after ground was broken on a new mental health crisis intake center. Rep. Kevin Jackson, R-Bowling Green, said the center aims to do just that.

Jackson said, “They will be evaluated when they come in; they will be detoxed. It’s going to be a one stop shop for people who are having a mental health or a drug or alcohol crisis.”
