AUSTIN, Texas — A truck driver has been indicted on nearly two dozen charges in connection with an Interstate 35 crash that left five people dead and multiple injured this spring in North Austin.
Court documents obtained Tuesday show Solomun Weldekeal-Araya – the driver of an 18-wheeler involved in the collision – was indicted by a Travis County Grand jury on 22 charges.
Araya is facing five counts of Manslaughter, two counts of Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury and 15 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, referring to the semi-truck. The Travis County District Attorney's Office said all of the offenses are second-degree felonies.
