WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — While responding to a call in Wethersfield on Monday, police found a woman who a North Carolina sheriff's office said was wanted in a homicide investigation.

Wethersfield police took Rajasaffiyya Drain, 28, into custody as a fugitive of justice Monday evening while responding to a domestic-related incident. WVEC reported that the arrest is linked to the death of two-year-old Jamie Drain, who died on Dec. 2, 2024. Officials in Bertie County later ruled the child's death a homicide.

An indictment by a grand jury Monday charged Drain with murder and felony child abuse.

Drain was emotional in the court room as she waived an extradition hearing. She agreed to return to North Carolina to face charges in connection to the murder of her two-year-old daughter.
