ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Gwinnett County police are investigating after an alleged burglar was shot and killed by a resident inside a home on Redbark Court in Lawrenceville.

Police said the suspect entered the back of the home early Monday morning and was immediately confronted by residents.

Officers surrounded the property, and as police entered the home to make an arrest, they said that’s when the suspect was shot by the homeowner.

A woman who loves at the home said her siblings live in the home and called her around 4 a.m. Monday to tell her about the intruder.

“I was shaking. I was very nervous. I was scared for my siblings,” she said. “We’ve lived in this neighborhood for like 20 years. Nothing like this has ever happened.”
