MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A man was arrested in Monroe County Monday evening after authorities said he assaulted an 11-year-old girl and dragged her down the street.

According to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a 911 call just before 8 p.m. from a woman who said her fiancé, a 35-year-old male, had assaulted her 11-year-old daughter at their residence on Aspen Street in Newport.

The suspect, who was unnamed in the press release pending a formal arraignment, then allegedly dragged the 11-year-old from the resident and was walking down the street and refused to let her go, the sheriff's office said. The child's mother followed them while on the phone with authorities.
