Syracuse, N.Y. -- The city of Syracuse has launched a series of public workshops to help residents understand climate change and take steps to lower their greenhouse gas emissions.

The meetings, open to the public, focus on topics such as energy efficiency, transportation and the role of trees in combating the “heat island effect” — where urban temperatures are higher than in surrounding rural areas.

There are three upcoming events in September and October.
