The City of Boston will pay $150,000 in a settlement to two men wrongfully arrested in 1989 by police investigating the killing of Carol Stuart , a case that fanned racial tensions in the city.

In 2023, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu issued a formal apology to the men, Alan Swanson and Willie Bennett for their arrests. The settlement provides monetary compensation - $100,000 for Bennett and $50,000 for Swanson.
