A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Sacramento was forced to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Sunday evening after a mechanical issue led to visible sparks coming from one of the aircraft's engines, according to officials and witness reports .

Delta flight 682 had just taken off when the problem was detected. The airline confirmed that the aircraft safely returned to the airport and was met on the runway by emergency crews as a precautionary measure.

What happened on board?

There were 152 passengers and six crew members aboard the flight. Delta says the pilots followed standard procedures and made a safe return to Atlanta without incident. No injuries were reported.
