Television ads urging Boston area police officers to leave their departments and join the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration began airing on Boston stations last week.

“Attention Boston law enforcement,” an announcer says in the spot sponsored by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “You took an oath to protect & serve, to keep your family, your city safe. But in sanctuary cities, you’re ordered to stand down while dangerous illegals walk free.”

The ad, which flashes images of ICE agents leading people away in handcuffs, urges officers to join ICE, to help “catch the worst of the worst, drug traffickers, gang members, predators” and offers a hefty incentive: a $50,000 sign-up bonus , student loan forgiveness, and “generous benefits.”
