ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a dog was reportedly abandoned on the side of the road in Attleboro early Monday morning.

Officers were called to the Seasons Corner Market around 1 p.m. after two people walked into the store just before 2 a.m. with a small dog in a cage. They told the cashier that they found the dog on the side of the road and "did not know what to do with it," according to police.

Though a good Samaritan customer took the dog home with him overnight, the store's manager became concerned for her wellbeing and contacted the Attleboro Police Department.

Investigators were able to track down the good Samaritan, who agreed to turn the dog over to Attleboro Animal Control. • (Courtesy: Attleboro Police Department) • (Courtesy: Attleboro Police De
