CITYWIDE — FORMER VICE PRESIDENT Kamala Harris on Monday gave a lukewarm endorsement to New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, joining Gov. Kathy Hochul and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, according to NPR. “Look, as far as I’m concerned he’s the Democratic nominee and he should be supported,” Harris said.

Heastie endorsed Mamdani last Wednesday, joining Gov. Kathy Hochul in backing the democratic socialist, according to the New York Times. Heastie, a Bronx lawmaker, praised Mamdani’s “romantic view” of the city and said millionaire tax proposals could gain traction in Albany. The endorsements follow hesitation among top Democrats wary of Mamdani’s left-wing stances, including his criticism of Israel.
