President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. pointed to Tylenol use during pregnancy as a potential cause for the rise in autism in the United States. Studies show conflicting data on Tylenol's link to autism.

HHS reported that Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) cases have gone up 400% since 2000 , now impacting one in 31 American children.

The two made announcements on the possible connections of acetaminophen and cerebral folate deficiency to ASD. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced it is providing $50 million in autism research as well. The Autism Data Science Initiative will fund 13 projects into autism research, granted by the NIH.
