STEVENSVILLE, Mich. — The Lakeshore Public Schools district is calling a recent incident that injured a player at a JV football game "intentional, unprovoked and flagrant violation of the rules and appropriate sports conduct."

On Thursday, Sept. 18, a JV football player for Lakeshore High School broke his spine after a player on Kalamazoo Central High School's JV team was seen on video jumping on him. Courtney Mims shared the disturbing video of her son Colton being jumped on as a play was concluding.

Doctors determined that Colton broke his spine in two places before he was released from the hospital and sent home to recover, MLive reported .

Following the incident, Kalamazoo Central High School said in a Facebook post that the student was being punished.
