An assistant football coach at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach was arrested after he allegedly battered multiple students, officials said.

Jamir Clarke, 29, was arrested on eight counts of child abuse without great bodily harm, Broward jail records showed.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said deputies responded to the school shortly after 4 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of a battery, then took Clarke into custody. Broward Sheriff's Office

In a message to parents, the school's principal said the incident happened during practice when the coach struck three students following a verbal altercation.
