LAKE COUNTY, MI – A 69-year-old Irons woman was sentenced Monday, Sept. 22, to 20 to 40 years in prison for killing her husband.

Betsy McIntyre earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after she stabbed her husband 14 times.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded 10:30 a.m. on May 11 to a report of a stabbing in the 4000 block of West Nine Mile Road in Eden Township.

Dispatchers informed sheriff’s deputies that a woman had called, stated she killed her 69-year-old husband, and then hung up the phone.

The woman called back and said she would harm herself if deputies did not hurry. Once on scene, deputies called out for the woman. She was eventually found in a shed behind her house and arrested.

Her husband was dead inside the shed.

McIntyre was sentenced by Lake County Probate
