MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison Police Department credited DNA evidence for leading to the arrest of a man accused in a 2013 sexual assault case.

MPD said Tuesday the sexual assault was reported on Nov. 3, 2013, in the 200 block of Hancock Street.

The victim, who was taken to the hospital, told officers she was at a concert with friends and got separated from them. Police said the man offered to help her, then sexually assaulted and attacked her in a parking lot.

MPD detectives, UnityPoint Health- Meriter forensic nurse examiners and Wisconsin State Crime Lab officials determined DNA evidence was present.

A DNA profile has been circulating in CODIS, a database that manages DNA samples used to aid in unsolved investigations, since 2013. Until recently, there have not been any matches.
