DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Hunger Coalition and the Des Moines Area Religious Council both say they expect the Trump administration’s decision to cancel the Household Food Security Survey will have devastating impacts across Iowa.
The survey gathers data from households across the country to measure food insecurity.
Luke Elzinga with the Iowa Hunger Coalition says they’re still trying to determine the potential damage from this decision.
But he says the USDA is spreading misinformation and that the decision to stop yearly reports will not prevent people from going hungry,
“It’s not going to prevent people from experiencing hunger and food insecurity. We’re going to still see people needing to use food pantries, whether or not we have the data to show that or not.”
