LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Opening statements began Tuesday in the trial of the man accused of fatally shooting a Louisville construction worker.
Louisville Metro Police says Keyshaun Stewart shot and killed 37-year-old Fred O’Bannon Jr. in November 2021.
The FBI said Stewart was originally attempting a carjacking when he fatally shot the father of five.
O’Bannon worked for Louisville Paving and Construction and was shot while sitting in his truck. He was working the overnight shift at a construction site along Interstate 264 at the Dixie Highway exit.
A police officer working off-duty was also shot that night but survived.
During opening statements, Stewart’s defense did not deny his actions that day but instead asked the jury to decide whether he intentionally committed those crimes.
