WASHINGTON — A Pennsylvania congressman is defending his effort to eliminate Washington D.C.'s automated traffic enforcement system , pushing back against critics who say Congress shouldn't be micromanaging local traffic laws while denying his campaign is driven by personal motivation.
Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) told WUSA9 in an exclusive interview that he has been tracking the District's camera system throughout his entire time in Congress, arguing the cameras represent revenue generation rather than public safety.
"Washington, D.C. is balancing its budget on traffic fines," Perry said. "It's not about safety. It's about revenue generation."
