Anthony Albanese has finally met Donald Trump in a brief encounter in New York.
The Prime Minister was among scores of world leaders attending a reception hosted by the US President on Tuesday night (local time).
NewsWire understands the two men spoke briefly and discussed their upcoming meeting in Washington next month, announced just hours earlier.
Mr Albanese will return to the US in late October for the sole purpose of having a face-to-face with Mr Trump at the White House.
Confirming the trip at press conference, Mr Albanese said they “agreed to a meeting some time ago”.
“We had another chat about it on the phone, and we’ll have a meeting in Washington DC on October 20,” he told reporters.
