PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Veterans in the Pikeville area were invited to gather Tuesday at an event devoted to creating access and awareness.

VFW Post 3769 hosted its annual “Veteran Stand Down” at Cornerstone Christian Church, bringing needed resources to veterans.

“One of the things we need to do is try to get the word out to our veterans and make sure they know that this is available,” said Post Commander Charles Atkinson. “We do this every year around October and we wanna make sure they’re aware that this is for them to come learn what opportunities and what resources are available.”

He said the event is all about providing a space for veterans to share stories, while making connections and addressing some of their concerns about VA benefits, medical help, mental health, and more.
