BEAVERTON, Ore. — Close your eyes and imagine a 94-year-old woman. What does she look like? What is she able to do? Now open your eyes and meet Gwen Foley. She has been teaching adaptive swimming for decades and is a superhero to many.

Striding tall, strong, and confident, Gwen Foley doesn't move like someone who has lived nearly a century. She walks like someone who refuses to let time dictate her pace.

At 94, the tireless swim instructor reports for volunteer duty at Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation's Harman Pool six days a week. Gwen has been teaching adaptive swimming since 1981, with each lesson creating ripples that extend far beyond the water's edge.
