COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (First Alert 4) - A Metro East community is being asked to take an additional step to ensure the water they drink and cook with is healthy. It’s because the City of Collinsville is working to combat PFAS or forever chemicals, that have contaminated the water source for the city, an underground aquifer.

Earlier this year, a letter was sent to people living in Collinsville, notifying them of the high level of PFAS in the raw water. It was one of about 50 Illinois community water systems where the notice from the EPA was issued. A concern because of health effects linked to PFAS.
