Byron Dumschat’s grieving mother says her family has been left “broken” after the 23-year-old died in Bali under circumstances she insists don’t add up.
Mr Dumschat was staying at The Grove Bumbak in Seminyak when he was found dead in the villa’s pool on May 26.
His mother, Chantal Haddow, told the ABC the ordeal has been “a nightmare we can’t wake up from”.
Balinese authorities initially told the family that “foul play wasn’t suspected”. However, a forensic report noted high alcohol levels, the presence of an antidepressant, and bruising on his forehead, eyelid and knee.
Investigators said the blunt force injuries were “not fatal”, but combined with alcohol and medication “could have further weakened” him.
