PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WLOX) - Tuesday night, officials confirmed two people are dead after an Amtrak train and a vehicle collided in Pass Christian.
Pass Christian Police Chief Daren Freeman confirmed that both people in the vehicle died in the crash.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer identified the victims as Douglas Craddock, 31, and Tavianna Ellegant, 24, both from Long Beach. According to Switzer, they died from blunt force trauma.
Amtrak officials say the crash happened at approximately 7:08 p.m. near Davis Avenue when the train struck a vehicle obstructing the track.
Officials haven’t released whether they believe the car was attempting to cross the tracks or stopped on the tracks.
The train, part of the Mardi Gras Service, was expected to drop passengers off in Gulfport at
