HOLLAND, MI -- A former Ottawa County commissioners has announced plans to run for a state Senate seat.
Democrat Chris Kleinjans announced Wednesday, Sept. 24 his intention to run for the 31st District seat in 2026.
The seat is now held by Republican Roger Victory.
Victory won handily in 2022 by collecting 62 percent of the vote.
Kleinjans served on the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners for eight months in 2024 after winning a recall election against then-District 2 Commissioner Lucy Ebel.
In November 2024, he ran against Republican Jordan Jorritsma and lost in a razor-thin vote , by a margin of only 237 votes.
Kleinjans works as a community impact officer for the Allegan County Community Foundation, according to his LinkedIn page.
