MUSKEGON, MI - All police officers currently working for the city of Muskegon will soon receive a one-time $5,000 bonus.

The Muskegon City Commission unanimously approved the bonuses during its Tuesday, Sept. 23 meeting. Mayor Ken Johnson and Commissioner Destinee Keener were absent.

There are 66 sworn officers and command staff who will receive the bonus in two payments of $2,500, with the first being paid in October and the second in June 2026.

The total expense will come out of the police department’s budget.

Public Safety Director Tim Kozal said the department is short six officers - there are 65 on staff but they are budgeted for 71.
