GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man will go on trial in December for allegedly cutting his roommate with a broken beer bottle during a fight.
Francisco Vela, 55, is charged with first-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
Court records show police arrested Vela in June after a fight on North 15th Street. When officers arrived on scene they found a 50-year-old man bleeding from a severe cut to his arm.
Police said Vela and his roommate were arguing when Vela broke a beer bottle and cut the victim with it.
The victim had to be flown to an Omaha hospital to stop the bleeding.
On Tuesday, Vela pled not guilty to the assault and weapons charges. A trial is scheduled for Dec. 1.
If convicted on either charge, Vela could face up to 50 years in prison.
