CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The 10-mile Highway 70–Havelock bypass project, which runs from northern Havelock to the Craven–Carteret County border, has been under development since 2019.
The goal of the project is to provide a faster route and a high-speed alternative to Highway 70, which currently cuts through the town.
However, many residents are concerned about what the future of Havelock will look like once the bypass is completed.
“It is a major concern to me. Nobody is going to be going through here anymore. I feel like it might turn into a ghost town. If it weren’t for the base, we would be nothing,” Havelock resident Michelle Willis said.
