“Evil,” as defined in various dictionaries and commentaries, seems to come down to two words: immoral and pernicious (or destructive).

We live in a time in which evil takes the form of politics, what some in power do that is immoral or destructive.

Perhaps the greatest evil in American history is chattel slavery — one man owning another in order to demand, coerce or force them to work for the owner’s benefit. Slavery was characterized by physical abuse, sexual cruelty and murder to maintain ownership and to strip Blacks of their freedom and dignity.
