( 25News Now ) - The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration is investigating the allegations of seatbelt issues in certain Rivian Electric Delivery Vans produced between 2022 and 2023.
The NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation said the vehicles in question consist of around 17,198 EDVs produced between 2022 and 2023.
The ODI received six reports of potential failures of the driver’s front outboard seat belt anchorage system. The agency said it is made of a steel-braided cable connected to the seat frame to support the seat belt webbing that secures the driver in place.
The reports describe multiple instances in which the seat belt steel braided cable frays, breaks and/or unravels, leaving the occupants unrestrained in the event of a collision, according to the NHTSA.
