EAST PROVIDENCE – The best story in this young Division I boys soccer season keeps getting better.

Despite a diverse, soccer-loving population, East Providence has long been known for its football rather than futbol. With the way things are going, a transition may be in place.

The Townies opened the season 3-0-2 but lacked a defining win. That changed on Sept. 17 with a shutout over defending state championship Hendricken. On Tuesday, Sept. 23, East Providence returned to the field against traditional state power North Kingstown and, after a tense first half, put together a dominant final 40 minutes.
