Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in Sault Ste. Marie and players are hoping to see courts upgraded to keep up with court demand.

City council passed a resolution Monday, moved by Ward 1 councillors Sandra Hollingsworth and Sonny Spina, asking staff to include the cost to upgrade the east-end Snowdon Park in its 2026 preliminary budget.

More than two dozen pickleball players attended the council meeting to lend support to the motion. Users say court demand is outpacing supply, creating long wait times at outdoor facilities and capacity issues indoor.

The idea to broach council was first raised by Soo Pickleball member Terry Bryson, said the Soo Pickleball’s Shelagh Yanni.
